Barbecue Time Is Here

TICKETS ARE STILL AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR .. ONLINE SALES ARE CLOSED

Welcome to the 2nd Annual Maine Barbecue Showdown.  This year, as it was last year, the Showdown will be held at the Portland Sports Dome on 512 Warren Ave, Portland Maine (next to Joker’s) on April 30, 2011 from Noon to 4:00PM.  This is a “People’s Choice” competition and a family-friendly event.

Many of Maine’s best Barbecue Teams will compete for your vote.  We have expanded the competition this year to include the following categories:  Best Beef Brisket, Best Pork, Best Individual Specialty, Best Sauce and Overall Grand Champion.  Each Barbecue Team may compete in any or all barbecue categories.

Our barbecue team list is growing and we are still accepting a few more entries.  Confirmed teams include:  Acadian Smoke House, Alabama’s BBQ, Albie’s of Maine, Better Than Average Barbecue, Briskett Boys, Chasin’ the Ring, CVC Catering Group, Devoe off Duval, Pig B-Q Roasts and Simply Smokin’.

Live music will be provided by Emerald Sky, one of Maine’s premier modern Country Music bands. They represent the great traditions of country music while bringing a unique style and sound to each song.  As you enjoy your barbecue, Emerald Sky will make you feel like you are in the heart of the Deep South.

Singer/songwriter David Good will join us to offer selections off his new album, 35 Below.  The influence of James Taylor is evident in David’s smooth vocals.  You can find his newest album, 35 Below at www.davidgoodmusic.com

Maine’s Senior Senator, Olympia Snowe, will join us for the barbecue showdown.  Senator Snowe has long been a supporter of the Wreaths Across America program going back to its first year coming down to Arlington National Cemetary.

The Senator will be on hand to encourage the barbecue teams, meet folks as the come in and support the Worcester family.

South Portland Police Officer and Author Steve Webster will also join us to sign his best-selling, new book, One Promise Kept.  The book chronicles “the case that made a cop and others that almost broke him.”

Webster has been written up twice in the Portland Press Herald, made numerous media appearances, is a frequent guest on the Ray & Ted Show commenting on law enforcement issues and has a Masters degree in Leadership.

And … DON’T FORGET … our mechanical bull will be on-site and ready to be tamed.

Tickets are available online and you can save by ordering them in advance.  Click here for details.  Proceeds benefit the Wreaths Across America program.  This is their 20th year bringing Christmas Wreaths down to Arlington National Cemetary to honor the lives of those who have given “the last full measure of devotion” in service of our nation.  We are honored to support their effort to lay a wreath on every grave at Arlington this coming December.

More details to come … You do not want to miss this family-friendly, get-your-fill-of-barbecue event.

We look forward to seeing you there,

Ray
